P l a k i a s   -   S o u d a   /   S o u t h   C r e t e Talos is a giant from the Greek mythology, made of bronze by the gods' smith Hephaistos (Lat. Vulcanus). In ancient times he (Talos, not Hephaistos) walked around the island of Crete 3 times per day, in order to protect it from enemies, pirates and other visitors. It is to be assumed that inbetween he took a rest from time to time, and because of the gorgeous views for sure also in the bay of Plakias.   Nobody shall ever say that Villa Talos would have been too small for that purpose ...   The holiday cottage Villa Talos is a tiny building nearby Souda at the western edge of the bay of  Plakias on the south coast of  Crete. It stands some 80 meters from the sandy beach on a huge property with vines, carob- and olive-trees. The holiday villa has a small bathroom with a WC and a shower, a terrace, a barbecue, sea and mountain views, and extremely peaceful surroundings.   Plakias is an old fishing-village on the south coast of the district of Rethymnon. It is known to individual tourists since some years, but still rather untouched by mass tourism. Around the port and further on eastward along the sandy beach which lines the bay, some smaller hotels and apartment facilities row up.   Down by the beach road there are several restaurants and tavernas, kafenions, small supermarkets and some other shops.
